It began with one conversation.
One conversation with an incarcerated individual changed the direction of my life.
What began as a single relationship became a deeper commitment rooted in listening, presence, honesty, and trust.
Over time, those conversations expanded into correspondence, prison visits, fellowship, and relationships across correctional facilities throughout North America.
Again and again, I witnessed something simple but powerful:
people change when they feel safe enough to be real.
We believe every encounter is an opportunity to remember what is true.
Beyond guilt, labels, and past mistakes, there is something in each person worthy of being seen.
At Last Step, we practice seeing through genuine conversation, faithful presence, fellowship, and the willingness to meet one another without judgment.
How we see one another matters.
Listening changes us.
We become what we practice.
We find ourselves through others.
“As you see him you will see yourself.”
What We Practice
Last Step is an ongoing practice of learning how to show up fully with another human being.
Presence
Showing up with attention, patience, and care.
Honesty
Speaking the truth from lived experience.
Fellowship
Meeting one another with humility, integrity, and trust.
Purpose
Remembering we are here to forgive.
continuing the conversation…
The founder of Last Step, Jeffrey Cosker, has centered this work around prison correspondence, fellowship, spiritual reflection, and creating spaces where real conversation can occur.
Today, that work continues through relationships and gatherings throughout the United States and Mexico.
What began with one conversation continues to grow.
